2025 January Preschool Art Curriculum Plan

Learning Goals:

  • Foster creativity and storytelling through winter- and Chinese New Year-themed art projects.

  • Develop fine motor skills through hands-on craft activities.

  • Promote teamwork through group-based projects.

  • Introduce and explore winter-related and Chinese New Year vocabulary and symbols.

Week 1

Winter Hide-and-Seek Snowflakes & Blessing Candle Crystal Lamp (Teamwork)

Create snowflakes using various materials (e.g., paper, cotton, glitter), explore patterns and symmetry. Play a “hide-and-seek” game with snowflakes around the classroom. Create a blessing candle crystal lamp as a group project.

1.0 Develop art appreciation skills.


 2.1 Explore visual art techniques and forms.

Week 2

Chinese New Year (Chinese Culture): Lucky Red Envelopes & Golden Kumquat

Celebrate Chinese New Year by making lucky red envelopes with gold kumquat designs. Discuss the significance of luck and prosperity. Teamwork activity: work together to decorate and design envelopes.

1.2 Recognize and use color in art.


 2.2 Combine elements of art to create unique works.

Week 3

Chinese New Year Lanterns & Calligraphy

Make Chinese New Year lanterns using colored paper and tissue. Practice calligraphy to write New Year’s blessings (福). Teamwork activity: create a large collaborative lantern.

 3.0 Communicate about art using appropriate vocabulary.

Week 4

Chinese Zodiac: Snake (2025 Year of the Snake)

Create a heart-shaped snake with pipe cleaners and discuss the significance of the snake in Chinese culture. Teamwork: Create paper-cut snakes to celebrate the Year of the Snake.

Evaluation and Reflection:

  • Enhance creativity and imagination through both winter-themed and Chinese New Year projects.

  • Develop fine motor skills through cutting, gluing, and assembling craft pieces.

  • Improve teamwork and collaborative skills through group activities.

  • Increase language development through storytelling, name recognition, and learning new cultural terms.

Assessment Methods:

  • Observation of engagement and creativity during activities.

  • Review of participation in group projects.

  • A collection of final projects to showcase progress and achievements.


Final Assignment - Project Showcase:

At the end of the course, students will showcase a collection of their completed works, including:

  1. Winter Snowflakes and Blessing Candle Crystal Lamp – A final presentation of individual snowflakes and the group-made blessing candle.

  2. Chinese New Year Red Envelopes and Lanterns – Display of their decorated red envelopes and lanterns.

  3. Chinese Zodiac Snake (Year of the Snake) – Presentation of their pipe cleaner snakes and paper-cut snakes.

  4. Chinese New Year Lion Dance with Colorful Frames – Display their decorated lion dance frames and lion heads.

  5. Chinese New Year Calligraphy Blessings – Showcase the written calligraphy blessings in Chinese New Year styles.
